Reddit: Gone but not forgotten, 5 foolproof tools to see deleted posts on
Did you find the perfect post on Reddit only for it to disappear from existence? Fear not, for Debugbar has found five tools to help you uncover those deleted posts and witness them once again.
You don’t have the time to read the entire article? Then there are the essential points to know :
- Unddit: A powerful tool that allows you to view deleted threads and comments from Reddit. There’s also an Android app available.
- Reveddit: A tool that enables you to view deleted comments and threads on Reddit. You can input a username, subreddit name, or thread link to retrieve content.
- Google Cache: A service that indexes and saves cached versions of web pages, useful for accessing recently deleted Reddit content.
- Resavr: A website dedicated to viewing deleted Reddit comments, not posts.
- The Wayback Machine: An internet archive that stores a vast amount of internet content, including Reddit.
You want to know more about it? So, buckle up and let’s dig in!
#1 – Unddit
Ever wish you had a time machine to travel back and view that deleted post or comment on Reddit? Well, Unddit (that replaced Removeddit) may just be the next best thing. It’s a powerful tool that allows you to visualize deleted threads and comments from Reddit with ease.
If you’re eager to see what was once lost, follow these simple steps:
- Go to: unddit.com.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+B to open your bookmark bar.
- Drag the big red button to your bookmark bar. Alternatively, you can right-click and select “Bookmark this link.”
- Open the deleted thread on Reddit.
- Wait for the page to fully load.
- Click on your bookmark.
Voila! Unddit will load all Reddit deleted comments from the Pushshift archive and present it in an interface similar to the old Reddit design.
Once the content is loaded, you’ll see that Unddit uses a red-blue color scheme to distinguish between comments deleted by the user and those deleted by a moderator.
- Comments deleted by the user are highlighted in blue,
- while comments with a red background have been unpublished by a moderator.
If you want to quickly view a specific comment within a thread, specify the direct link to the post containing the deleted comment, and Unddit will only retrieve and load that conversation from the archive.
You’re an Android user? Then you can also view deleted Reddit comments by installing the Unddit app from the Play Store.
As you can see, Unddit is a very good tool, but there are others that aren’t bad either.
#2 – Reveddit
Reveddit.com is a tool that enables you to view deleted comments and threads on Reddit. Here’s how to make use of Reveddit and its features:
- Open the site by visiting reveddit.com from any browser.
- You will find a single text field on the site where you can input a username or thread link.
- If you specify a subreddit name, Reveddit will list all deleted threads and comments posted under that name for you to browse through.
- You can enter URLs for specific posts and threads.
- Alternatively, replace “reddit” in the thread URL with “revedddit” to directly view deleted content within that particular discussion.
- Keep in mind that Reveddit does not show user-deleted comments; you can only see comments deleted by the moderator.
- Additionally, you can spot unpublished comments by inserting “ve” into the URL of any Reddit page.
Unfortunately, Revedddit does not retrieve user-deleted content – it only recovers posts or comments removed by moderators or bots.
But this minor inconvenience is quickly forgotten thanks to the tool’s other features, like the Reveddit Real-time extension. This extension allows you to get notified when your content on Reddit has been quietly deleted, showing when you’ve been silently banned by bots or moderators.
Interested by this recovery service? To use it, it’s very simple, you just have to go to the Reveddit website and enter a username in the pop-up window that appears.
You’ll be presented with all Reddit posts deleted by the user themselves or deleted by admins or mods.
Not convinced by the first two tools? Don’t worry, there are others!
#3 – Google Cache
Google (GG) indexes web pages and saves cached versions of these pages, which can help you access deleted Reddit comments and posts.
To use this service to view deleted threads or comments, follow these steps:
- Open Chrome on your computer, or select “Desktop site” from the three-dot icon on mobile.
- In the search bar, type the URL of the deleted Reddit post or the user’s name.
- Find the relevant entry in the results and click on the three-dot icon next to it.
- In the drop-down list, you should find an option labeled “Cached.” If GG has saved the page, click to view it.
Keep in mind that this method mainly works for recently deleted content due to Google’s frequent updates of its cached pages. Moreover, if GG has already re-crawled and saved a new version of the page, you may not find the deleted thread or comment.
For recently deleted Reddit posts or comments, you can also retrieve versions putted in cache by following these steps:
- Go to google.com and look for the Reddit post.
- In the search bar results, click on the downward-facing arrow next to the post’s name.
- Choose “Cached” from the drop-down list. GG will redirect you to the Reddit post as it was when its bots last visited it.
Remember that this method relies on its robust caching service and is best used for recently deleted content.
#4 – Resavr
Resavr is a website dedicated to viewing deleted Reddit comments but not deleted posts. The user interface of the site is simple and intuitive, enabling you to browse through recently deleted comments with ease. Here is how to use this tool:
- Go to the resavr.com homepage.
- Use the search bar at the top right of the page to find specific threads or a Reddit user’s name.
- You can also browse the most recent deleted comments by clicking on the button next to the search text field.
- For each comment you find, the page displays the moment it was written and removed.
Please note that unlike other tools this one does not allow users to search for a specific thread using its URL to view the deleted comment.
Moreover, the tool only saves comments and posts that have 650 characters or more.
To further explore deleted comments:
- Visit the tool’s homepage.
- Search for a comment using the post title.
- Access the “Recent Comments” tab to view recently deleted posts and comments from the platform.
- In addition to displaying comments, the site shows the character length and deletion time/date for each post.
With this information at hand, you can delve deeper into researching the post by visiting sites like the Wayback Machine.
#5 – The Wayback Machine
The Wayback Machine, also known as the Internet Archive, preserves a wealth of internet content, including Reddit.
If the previously mentioned tools fail to display deleted Reddit content, consider visiting the WaybackMachine in the hope that it has archived the comment you wish to read.
Here are the steps to view deleted Reddit posts using the WaybackMachine:
- Visit the WaybackMachine website at web.archive.org.
- Enter the URL of the Reddit post you want to view, but first clean it by removing any unnecessary HTTP parameters. If you don’t have the URL, type the subreddit or profile link into the search field.
- Next, a calendar interface will appear with blue circles indicating dates when the WaybackMachine last stored the page. Select the relevant year, month, date, and time when the archive was captured.
- The WaybackMachine will display a snapshot of your deleted post if it was ever captured.
However, if a user or moderator deleted the content you’re seeking before it had a chance to be archived, you won’t be able to view it.
The WaybackMachine is an excellent tool for retrieving lost Reddit content.
To view deleted comments, you can even see any edits that might have been made before the comment was removed. Operating as a nonprofit website, it not only stores Reddit content but also pages from across the web, archiving snapshots of websites at specific moments.
The more popular the domain you’re searching for is, the higher your chances are of finding it here.
Seeing deleted post on Reddit is not so complicated
Rejoice, fellow Redditors! Unearthing deleted posts and comments doesn’t have to be an impossible task. With these five foolproof methods, you’ll be able to:
- Use Unddit to visualize deleted threads and comments with a user-friendly interface.
- Employ Reveddit to list moderator-deleted comments under specific subreddits.
- Take advantage of GG Cache for recently removed content.
- Explore Resavr for a comprehensive list of deleted comments with timestamps.
- Turn back the clock with The WaybackMachine for archived Reddit snapshots.
Happy hunting and enjoy exploring the hidden depths of Reddit!
